Extensive cottage renovation
Renovations | 2016
This classic weatherboard cottage started as a basic post-war fibro home in need of an upgrade for a young family. While the finished product looks nothing like the original, much of the existing floor and wall frames were retained to help keep the cost of the renovation down. The owners wanted the home to have a traditional Federation style feel, but also offer the functionality and flow of a more contemporary home.
The main living areas maximise the sun drenched northern aspect, while the width of the block was fully utilised to minimise the loss of garden at the front and rear. By using traditional weatherboards and solid timber windows, this home really demonstrates how quality and simplicity can still have a striking and enduring effect.
